Guide to Becoming an Activist: Fundraising
Much of the work that you will do as an activist requires no more (and no less) than compassion and motivation. On the other hand, making fliers, setting up information stalls and forming groups also requires some money to cover costs.
The main way that activists raise funds is through street stalls, but it is important to note that you are not permitted to ask the public for money. Be careful, even having a collection tin on the table can be interpreted as asking for money. Try raising funds by having car-boot sales, doing odd jobs (like washing cars or cleaning) or having people sponsor walks or bike rides. The chapter on Fundraising in Campaign Against Cruelty is very helpful and is available for £4.99 at www.vegetarianguides.co.uk or through the post from Vegetarian Guides Ltd., P.O. Box 2284, London W1A 5UH, England.
