The PETA Foundation, previously known as PETA Research and Education Foundation, a registered UK charity (number 1056453), focuses on developing and distributing educational materials teaching empathy for animals.

In 2007, the PETA Foundation attended four educational events in cities throughout the UK, distributing more than 5,400 education packs (containing lesson plans, DVDs and other resources) and other materials to teachers for free. Additionally, more than 5,000 packs were sent through various other distribution programmes in the United Kingdom and overseas.

In an exciting new endeavour, we were delighted to team up with Britt Allcroft, creator of the beloved children's television series Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends, to encourage children to avoid circuses that use animals and instead participate in animal-friendly activities.

Another project completed this past year was a humane education kit called Share the World, which we adapted by special request for teachers in Egypt.

During 2007, the PETA Foundation helped to inform educators of the link between violence to animals and cruelty to humans by contacting schools in areas where animal abuse occurred. We responded to 79 cases of cruelty by providing more than 3,140 schools with humane education resources and factsheets about the link between cruelty to animals and violence to humans. We also sent 900 prosecutor packs to police following cruelty-toanimals cases in an effort to ensure that the cases would be treated seriously. Additionally, the PETA Foundation sent 20,000 copies of the "Cruelty to Animals, Violence to Humans" factsheet to the publishers of Primary Choice magazine, who enclosed them in the magazine to help educators understand the importance of teaching empathy for animals.
